Dodge Truck Seat Covers 101: Bench vs. Bucket vs. 60/40 Split (How to Identify Your Seat & Choose the Right Cover)

Posted by The ShearComfort Team

The type of seats your Dodge truck has plays a large role in selecting the right type of seat covers. ShearComfort has many different types of seat covers that fit your Dodge truck’s seats – available in multiple colors and materials. Your seats deserve the best layer of protection, and we have the right covers to make that happen.

To make sure you choose the right seat covers, you have to look at the headrest, seat belt, and how the seat itself is made. You can’t put seat covers made for a bench seat on a bucket seat, and vice versa. ShearComfort guides you through the seat cover selection process beginning with make, model, and year.

Why Headrests Matter in Seat Cover Selection

When you look at your truck’s seats, you will likely be able to identify a few things about the headrests relatively easy. Most trucks have some type of adjustable headrest. These are the ones that go up and down. You may find some integrated into the seat, which will also be important to know when selecting seat covers.

Adjustable headrests often come completely off, which is beneficial when putting the seat cover on. The true purpose of this is often to provide a way to break the window (using the metal portion) in the event you are trapped in the vehicle. When looking at integrated headrests, these are the ones molded to the seat, with no separation. You might see these on a bucket seat, but they are not as common in newer vehicles as they are in older ones.

Seat Belt Orientation

Another minor factor to consider is how the seat belt is oriented. Most often, when dealing with a bench seat, the middle seat belt comes from within the seat’s structure. This particular seat belt has to be compensated for when selecting seat covers, or else it is unsafe for anyone to sit there. You must be able to access the seat belt when using a seat cover to use that third seat on a bench seat.

ShearComfort’s Dodge truck seat covers, such as Neo-Supreme, offer great protection from daily wear and can be customized to fit your particular truck seat design. Available in over 18 colors, you can rest assured you will find a match every time.

Identifying Your Dodge Truck’s Seats

When you look at the interior of your truck, you might not be thinking about the type of truck seats you have – you just know you want to spruce them up and keep them safe with seat covers. You have likely heard the names before; bench seats, bucket seats, and split seats, but weren’t completely sure what it meant. Before ordering your custom-made Dodge truck seat covers, you will need to know exactly what seats you have in your truck.

Bench Seats and Split Seats

You will most often find bench seats in a cab that has two rows of seats or a traditional regular cab. A bench seat is one continuous seat that fits three people comfortably. There is often no division within the seats on a bench seat (unless they are split), which is part of the popularity in a regular cab truck. The back seat is where you will find the split-bench seats used to make more cargo room.

Split seats come in two primary configurations – 60/40 and 40/20/40. The sum of the back seat is 100, so each of the divisions is the percentage of the seat that folds away. You may also find a console with these configurations, which is another factor to be considered when selecting a seat cover. A popular selection for bench seats is Saddle Blanket seat covers. These covers are comfortable and come in six different color variations.

Bucket Seats

Bucket seats are what you would consider a “single-seater.” These are the seats that dip a little in the middle, offering comfort for one passenger per seat. Bucket seats are primarily found in the front of the truck, accompanied by a bench in the back. Front bucket seats are extremely popular, and ShearComfort Dodge truck seat covers can be customized to fit any year and the trim level you may have.
