Subaru Seat Options Explained: Types, Features & Comfort by Model

Posted by The ShearComfort Team

The type of seats you have in your Subaru factor into the fit your seat covers will have when installing them in your car. Your seats are not the only thing to take into consideration – you have to look at the construction of the seat, too. Where is the seat belt located? Is there a center console? You have to look at the structure of the seat, and ShearComfort has the plans and experience for each type of seat you may find in your Subaru.

The Location of the Seat Belt

Seat belts can be found in various locations on and around the seat of your Subaru. You may find it attached to the frame by the door or in the actual structure of the seat. Depending on where the seat is located within the car and how the seat is constructed, your Subaru seat covers may need to accommodate for this feature. So, between the buckles and the belt itself, there are a lot of factors to consider when choosing the best fit.

Headrests Matter

The next thing to consider when looking for new Subaru seat covers is your headrest. This comes into play when looking at covers like our water-resistant Imitation Leather selection. Each of these seat covers is made to fit your Subaru’s model, year, and trim level with the exact specs on file. ShearComfort offers made-to-order seat covers – made to fit (even older seat and headrest models).

Two of the primary types of headrests you will find in a Subaru are integrated and adjustable headrests. Integrated headrests are those where the contour of the seat and the headrest are all one piece of material. Adjustable headrests are much like they sound – they can move up and down, and some are even “smart,” moving with impact. The type of headrest and how it works factor into finding the right fit for your seat cover.

Armrests and Consoles

We all like to have comfort when we are riding in a car or SUV. We want to be able to get comfortable and use the armrest or pull down the console. These can factor into the structure and design of the seat, which is why ShearComfort makes sure to take these into account when creating your specialized Subaru seat covers. Each custom-made seat cover you purchase for your Subaru will fit just like the manufacturer’s cover on your seats.

The Types of Subaru Seats

There are many different types of seats that you may find in vehicles over the years. It is possible that you could see bucket (Captain) seats, bucket seats, or even split seat arrangements – depending on the number of passengers that your car will accommodate. One of the most popular types of seat covers that Subaru owners purchase is Neo-Supreme. These are great for everyday use and come in over 18 different colors.

Bucket (Captain) Seats

Some of the most popular seats you will find in cars, especially the driver and front passenger seats of a car. These are the seats that form better to the body – they are more comfortable to sit in, especially for longer periods of time. These seats are for a single person, not for more than one to sit in. Bucket seats often have more safety features and better options overall. These seats tend to lean more on the side of comfort, with the hidden extra of safety built-in. Some Subaru models offer these types of seats in the front and the back.

Bench Seats

Bench seats are those seats that are one continuous seat, without any split to them. You might see these more in older cars or a prominent third row of seats. Bench seating (in terms of a single bench) are less common in newer cars. Even though they are fitted with seat belts, they aren’t always the most comfortable or offer the most safety features.

Split Seats

Split seats are like a bench seat but with distinct divisions within the seat, whether folding or other purposes. The most common split designs are 40/20/40 and 60/40.  If you imagine a bench seat with these splits, you see that the seating area equals 100% total but with the smaller sections. Some of these, especially the 40/20/40, will have the console in the middle. It opens up to a smaller third seat or often houses the drink holders.

If you want another option that can endure more than just daily wear and waterproof coverage, the Waterproof CORDURA™ covers all the bases and keeps the seats underneath as new as when you purchased your Subaru. Subaru’s have a history of lasting – ShearComfort wants your car’s seats to last, too.
